St John The Evangelist's Church

  • Peregrines were first regularly observed in Bath around the year 2000.
  • In 2005, a local conservation group affiliated with the Hawk and Owl Trust installed a nesting platform on the spire.
  • The birds successfully bred for the first time in 2006, and young peregrines have fledged every year since.
  • Between 2006 and 2022, a total of 48 peregrines successfully fledged from this nest.
  • The first peregrine to be blue-ringed (AA) at Bath was the breeding tiercel from 2009, but he was replaced in 2021 by an unringed tiercel.
  • In 2014, the Hawk and Owl Trust installed a high-quality wildlife camera system, providing a live-streaming view of the nest online.
  • In 2021, the Blue Ring Project changed its color ring format from black-on-blue to white-on-blue. The first eyass ringed under this new system, also labeled AA, was a male, mirroring the first bird ringed under the project.
