Hawk and Owl Trust Projects

Conserving Birds of Prey and their Habitats

Last week we saw a rapid change in the chick's growth. Their appearance is changing by the day, with their white down being replaced with their juvenile feathers. The weather was cooler and there was more rain than in recent weeks. The fact that the chicks now have their juvenile plumage means they are more protected from the elements as their feathers give them a more waterproof layer. The chicks have been seen stretching their wings out and moving around the platform. You can see the size difference between the male and female, both looking healthy. The chicks are not far off fledging, they hatched on the 3rd and 4th of May so are now past the 38 day old window so could potentially fledge any day, however watching their behaviour we think they still have another week or so on the platform before they will be ready to fledge. We are excited to watch their development and hope for a successful fledging soon!

On Wednesday Hawke Optics spent the day at the Watchpoint with an array of their products, talking to the public about all things binoculars and scopes. This allowed the public to test out some of the equipment and see the Peregrines.
